How to work with the ranking monitor: part 1 of 8

The new ranking monitor in SEOProfiler enables you to check the position of your web pages on Google, Yahoo and Bing. In this article series, we’ll explain how to work with the ranking monitor.

    1. How to access the ranking monitor

Login to SEOprofiler and select the ranking monitor in the “Results” menu. Alternatively, you can click the “Check results” link in the new “Total rankings” box on the project overview page:

    2. How to work with the ‘Overview’ panel in the ranking monitor

The overview panel shows you the most important facts of your rankings at a glance:

    The ‘Search engines’ section

The search engine sections shows you how well your web pages rank on Google, Yahoo and Bing. Here’s an explanation of the different columns:

    • Ranked pages: The number of pages of your website that is listed on the search engine. The first column shows this week’s number, the second column shows the change compared to the previous ranking check. Positive changes are marked in green, negative changes are marked in red.
    • Ranked keywords: The number of keywords of your website that is listed on the search engine. The first column shows this week’s number, the second column shows the change compared to the previous ranking check.
    • Total rankings: The number of rankings for your website on the search engine. The first column shows this week’s number, the second column shows the change compared to the previous ranking check.
    • Average position: The average position of your website on the search engine for your keywords. The first column shows this week’s number, the second column shows the change compared to the previous ranking check.
    • Page 1 rankings: The number of page 1 rankings of your website on the search engine for your keywords. The first column shows this week’s number, the second column shows the change compared to the previous ranking check.
    • Visibility score:: The Visibility score shows how well your website is ranked on search engines. For every ranking, there are points. First place rankings get the most points, position 50 gives only one point, no ranking gives no points.

A visibility score of 100% means that you have first place rankings on all three search engines for all of your keywords. The first column shows this week’s number, the second column shows the change compared to the previous ranking check.

    The ‘Key data’ section

The key data section enables you to quickly see the progression of your search engine rankings:

    • Calendar week: When your rankings have been checked. All keywords are checked weekly but not every keyword is checked on the same day.
    • Ranked pages: The number of different pages of your website that are ranked on Google, Yahoo and Bing combined.
    • Total rankings: The number of rankings for your website on Google, Yahoo and Bing combined.
    • Average position: The average position of your website on Google, Yahoo and Bing.
    • Page 1 rankings: The number of page 1 rankings on Google, Yahoo and Bing of your website.
    • Visibility score: The Visibility score of your website on Google, Yahoo and Bing combined. An explanation of the visibility score can be found above.

    The settings section

The settings section shows the basic settings of the ranking monitor and it also enables you to change the settings:

    • Checked domain: the domain for which the ranking monitor checks the positions. Click the pencil icon to change the domain. The ranking monitor automatically finds all sub pages of your website. You only have to enter the main address of your website.
    • Checked keywords: The number of keywords for which the ranking monitor checks your search engine positions. Depending on your SEOprofiler plan, you can check up to 2,500 keywords. Click the pencil icon to add more keywords.
    • Checked competitors: The number of competitors that the ranking monitor checks. The competitor results will be displayed in the ‘Competitors’ panel in the ranking monitor. Click the pencil icon to edit the competitor URLs. You can monitor up to 5 competitors.

    The opportunities and alerts section

The opportunities and alerts section shows you which keywords can deliver much better results with a few tweaks. The alerts panel will also inform you about potential ranking problems. We’ll write more about the opportunities and rankings in another article of this series.
