Google: migrate from m-dot domains to responsive design

Once again, Google’s John Mueller said on Twitter that you should migrate away from m-dot domains. He said this several times before. If you still use an m-dot domain (m.example.com) for your mobile web pages, it might be a good idea to redesign your website:

Last March, John Mueller said that websites with separate mobile URLs should move to responsive design:

“I’d recommend integrating the mobile version just as well as you would the desktop version. That means adding the alternate-amphtml link to the mobile version (pointing at the amp version), and including a reference to the mobile version from the amp version.

That said, at some point all of these sites with separate mobile URLs should just move to a responsive design anyway, which makes all of this moot. (Separate mobile URLs makes everything much harder than it needs to be.)”

Google can handle separate mobile URLs. However, Google recommends responsive web design because it is much cleaner and easier to maintain than other methods.
