We have improved the KeywordIndex keyword research tool in SEOprofiler. Starting today, you will get the local searches, the global searches, the number of results and the KEI for your keywords:
KeywordIndex provides Keyword suggestions for 25 different countries and languages.
What is the KEI?
The KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) compares the number of searches for a keyword with the number of search results to find out which keywords are most effective for your campaign.
The formular for KEI is Searches * Searches / Number of results.
Example: suppose the number of searches for a keyword is 486 per month and Google displays 214,234 results for that keyword. Then the ratio between the popularity and competitiveness for that keyword is 486 * 486 divided by 214,234. In this case, the KEI is 1.10.
The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less competition they have. The higher the KEI, the easier it is to get high rankings for the keyword.
Is the KEI a good indicator for useful keywords?
According to the KEI definition, the best keywords are those that have many searches and that don’t have much competition in the search results.
The KEI makes no statement about the quality of the competition. While there might be only a few competitors in the search results, these competitors could be big players with big SEO teams and thousands of backlinks.
The number of search results cannot always tell you whether it is easy to get your web site listed in the top 10 results for that keyword or not. It’s much easier to move your web site from position 50,000 to position 32,000 than from position 210 to position 8. The KEI can help you to choose keywords but you should not rely too much on it
Keywords are very important for SEO
If you want to succeed with your website, you have to target the right keywords. To find the best keywords, do the following:
- Step 1: find the keywords with the biggest search volume. You can do this with the keyword tool in SEOprofiler.
- Step 2: find the most specific keywords in your keyword list. Don’t use one-word keywords. If you sell used cars in Knoxville then the keyword “cars” won’t work for you. People searching for “cars” might be interested in new cars, in car insurance and even in the Pixar movie.
- Step 3: check the motivation of the searcher. For example, the key phrase “used cars canada” might be more popular than the key phrase”used cars knoxville” it’s obvious that the second key phrase will work better for you if you sell used Ford cars in Knoxville.
Further information on how to find the best keywords for your website can be found in chapter “Keyword research” in the SEOprofiler manual.
