The top-level domain (TLD) is one of the domains at the highest level in the hierarchical Domain Name System of the Internet. For example, in the domain name www.example.com, the top-level domain is .com.
Most businesses use popular TLDs such as .com or the TLD of the country (.de for Germany, .fr for France, etc.). That makes sense because Google uses country code TLDs for geotargeting.
There are many more top-level domains
Since some time ago, it is possible to register many different top-level domains. For example, you can register www.example.club, www.example.awesome, www.example.doctor, etc.
Google’s John Mueller confirmed that Google does not prefer any top-level domain. According to John Mueller, Google’s systems treat new gTLDs (generic top level domains) like other gTLDs (like .com & .org). Keywords in a TLD do not give any advantage or disadvantage in search.
We have added 51 new TLDs
We have extended the list of top-level domains that are supported by SEOprofiler. For example, we now support .charity, .inc, and .llc. SEOprofiler now supports a total of 7,2332 TLDs.
