Google’s Danny Sullivan confirmed a ‘broad core algorithm update’ four days ago. The update is still causing ranking changes for many websites (online discussion).
What is a core algorithm update?
Google has two types of algorithm updates: focus updates and core algorithm updates. Google does focused updates nearly daily. Broad core algorithm updates happen several times per year
Focused updates are minor updates that deal with a single issue (page speed, HTTPS, etc.). Core updates address multiple things (such as the Panda update or the Penguin update).
